Laboratory Overview
The Fourth Laboratory is working on improving tsunami forecasting methods to improve the accuracy of tsunami warnings and advisories issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency. We are aiming to improve the tsunami forecasting method for areas close to the wave sources by understanding the nature of the tsunami generation fields, for areas slightly away from the wave sources by improving the technology for utilizing offshore observation data, and for areas far away from the wave sources by improving the tsunami calculation methods for expressing non-linearity.
