The 4th laboratory of the Department of Climate and Geochemistry Research

Objective

Our research interests focus on the marine carbon cycle and aim to understand its natural variability and anthropogenic perturbations such as ocean acidification and deoxygenation. In particular, we have been developing the methods of high-precision measurements of biogeochemical parameters such as CO2 system variables, dissolved oxygen and so on. On the basis of the high-quality data of measurements, we are analyzing the seasonal, inter-annual to multi-decadal variability and their controlling physical and biogeochemical processes in surface layers and in the interior of the vast global oceans as well as in the North Pacific including the regions in the vicinity of Japan.
