Research on Mechanisms behind Typhoons and Other Extreme Weather Phenomena, and Development of Related Monitoring and Forecasting Technology

Mechanism elucidation and development of high-level monitoring and prediction technology for severe extreme weather phenomena such as typhoons, torrential rain including “senjo-kousuitai*)”, heavy snowfall, tornadoes and damaging winds are conducted using state-of-the-art observation and analysis along with high-accuracy numerical prediction. This helps to mitigate the effects of disasters related to such meteorological conditions.
