Second Laboratory

Summary Account

In order to mitigate volcanic disasters, we conduct researches on volcanic ejecta released into the atmosphere, combining knowledge and technology of meteorology and volcanology. In our research, we are developing techniques for immediate monitoring of volcanic eruption and quantitative ash estimation using weather radar. We are also researching on improvement of our Atmospheric Transport Model (ATM), which is based on data assimilation and numerical simulation. The aim of the ATM is to predict volcanic ash transport and ash fall immediately, quantitatively and accurately.
