Summary Account

In order to mitigate volcanic disasters, we conduct researches on volcanic ejecta released into the atmosphere, combining knowledge and technology of meteorology and volcanology.
In our research, we are developing techniques for immediate monitoring of volcanic eruption and quantitative ash estimation using weather radar and meteorological satellites. We are also researching on improvement of the Eruption Column Model (ECM) and Atmospheric Transport Model (ATM), which are based on numerical simulations. The aim of the ECM and ATM are to predict volcanic ash transport and ash fall immediately, quantitatively and accurately.
