First Laboratory
Laboratory Overview
JMA operationally monitors seismic activity throughout the country and issues relevant warnings and information, and when a noticeable event is observed, JMA comments on the phenomenon. The First Laboratory conducts research to more efficiently determine the epicenter and magnitude of various types of earthquakes, as well as to quickly determine slip distribution for large earthquakes in order to contribute the JMA seismic information.
