The third laboratory of the Department of Climate and Geochemistry Research

Objective

The main aim in the third laboratory is to observe temporal and spatial variations of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide by using high-precision and high-resolution measurements at ground-based stations and aircraft. Based on the observed data, we elucidate global carbon and other biogeochemical cycles linked with climate change in combination of meteorological analyses and numerical model experiments to estimate sources and sinks of greenhouse gases in the ocean and land biosphere. Other topic in our laboratory is to develop new measurement techniques for atmospheric monitoring in the next generation (e.g. mobile gas analyzer).
