Research on high performance ocean modeling using MRI.COM

Reducing the uncertainty of estimation in global warming projection requires reliable data on the absorption of heat and tracers into oceans as well as knowledge of their variability. The aim of this research is to develop high-performance ocean models incorporating ocean biogeochemical processes to improve understanding and prediction of ocean conditions associated with natural climate variability and anthropogenic change.

Annual mean anthropogenic carbon calculated with an ocean model for uptake at the sea surface (left) and column inventory (right). Detailed analysis of model outputs facilitates understanding of anthropogenic carbon transport in the ocean.
