Research on Monitoring and Forecasting of
Volcanic Activity

The Department of Volcanology Research works to enhance monitoring, evaluation and prediction methods for volcanic activity through research using geophysics and geochemistry. We also develop and improve immediate analysis and prediction methods for eruption phenomena those can be applied even to large-scale eruptions. These products contribute to timely and accurate issuance of volcanic alerts and volcanic ash forecasts, as well as improving the criteria for determining the Volcanic Alert Levels.
