In order to sophisticate meteorological information for natural-disaster mitigation and for climate/environment monitoring, we need adequate observations of atmospheric phenomena of all scales ranging from micro to global, and the atmosphere itself. To ensure adequate observations, we need development of satellite-based and ground-based remote-sensing techniques, development of a utilization method for remotely sensed data, and optimum observation system design.
The Meteorological Satellite and Observation System Department is facilitating research on observation systems including meteorological/earth-observing satellites, Doppler radar, lidar, and wind profiler, on their data utilization methods, and on an integrated observation system.
