@To mitigate damages caused by torrential rainfall, heavy snow and typhoon, it is essential to improve weather prediction through development of advanced numerical weather model and to improve weather warning information on extreme weather through development of advanced observation and data assimilation system applying various remote sensing technology.
@In the forecast research department, following two subjects are being focused to study:
@(1)Research on development of advanced numerical prediction methods, and
@(2)Research on development of advanced meteorological observation and analysis techniques.

Research on development of next generation non-hydrostatic numerical prediction model
  • Development of advanced non-hydrostatic models
  • Development of global non-hydrostatic models

Research on mesoscale data assimilation and ensemble forecast
  • Development of advanced mesoscale data assimilation methods
  • Development of utilization techniques of observation data
  • Development of mesoscale ensemble prediction methods
Analytical and statistical research on mechanism elucidation of extreme event
  • Understanding of severe weather phenomena and study on their mechanisms
  • Production of expository descriptions on factors affecting formation of severe weather phenomena
  • Evaluation of influence of urban effects on severe weather phenomena
