Artificial Radionuclide Databases

Geochemical Res. Dep./MRI databases and sample archives

Geochemical Res. Dep./MRI provides files of computer databases from its current and historical programs since 1955 together with the published data at other institutes/organizations.

Now two database become available

1.   Artificial Radionuclides in the Pacific Ocean - HAM database

2.   The Integrated Global Fallout Database - IGFD

The database files are Microsoft Access files and available on request via cloud server.

1. Artificial Radionuclides in the Pacific Ocean - HAM database:

Historical Artificial Radionuclides in the Pacific Ocean and its Marginal Seas database, HAM database, include 90Sr, 137Cs and 239,240Pu in the seawater in the Pacific Ocean and its Marginal Seas from sea surface to the bottom.

Over 3000 data are available for the Pacific Ocean particularly for North Pacific Ocean.

The major sources of data are as follows;

GRD/MRI data from several scientific papers in the Pacific ocean since 1955 .

Scientific papers, reports and books 1960-1995.

The annual reports of Hydrographic Department/Maritime Safety Agency /Japan since 1977-1997

Acknowledgment

The authors thank researchers and scientists who conducted/who is conducting studies in this field for long period. The authors also express special thanks to Ms. Kayono Yamamoto for her effort input/making the database from many publications during these months.

2. The Integrated Global Fallout Database - IGFD

  1. Introduction

The Integrated Global Fallout Database (IGFD) provides information on world wide fallout data.

This database contains;

90Sr, 137Cs and 239,240Pu monthly fallout

at

13 stations from MRI fallout program

28 stations from AERE/AEA program

167 stations from HASL/EML global fallout program

for the period

from 1954

to 1998.

When the monthly fallout were not available, monthly fallout were estimated from quarterly/bimonthly fallout data dividing the corresponding number of months.

  1. Graphic presentation of monthly 90Sr and 137Cs fallout.

The graphic presentation of monthly 90Sr and 137Cs fallout for all stations in this database are given in appendix A in the order of station lists, table 1,2 and 3.(in postscript files or printed)

The unit of monthly fallout is Bq m-2 ( or MBq km-2).

The crosses show monthly 137Cs deposition and the circles show monthly 90Sr deposition.

All figures are also available in postscript files, those will be in CD-ROM in the future together with the monthly fallout data for each station..

3. Reconstruction of the monthly 137Cs fallout since July 1945.

For the period from July 1945 to 1954, annual deposition of 137Cs for Tsukuba/Japan were estimated by Aoyama (1998). Then the monthly deposition gives dividing the estimated annual deposition by 12. The temporary station name for this time series of fallout is MRI000.
